LINE OF DUTY DEATH FUNERAL PROTOCOL

In order to honor our fallen comrades through tradition, certain guidelines must be adhered to before, during, and after Line of Duty (L.O.D.) death funerals.

Once a L.O.D. death is announced, the Corps shall notify the affected agency of our availability. A Corps member will make themselves available for any meetings or questions in regards to the funeral arrangements.

MPSP&D Corps may provide any or all of the following:
• Honor Guard and/or Color Guard
• Flag folding
• Pipes and/or Drums at the funeral home
• Pipes and/or Drums at the church
• Pipes and/or Drums at the graveside
• Parade ground dress inspections for attending funeral units
• Marching instructions for attending funeral units
• “Street beat” for marching units and color guard

Information required by MPSP&D Corps:
• Date and time of the funeral
• Contact numbers for Funeral Director, Clergy, Agency Contact
• Location of the Funeral Home including street address
• Visiting hours
• Location of the service including street address
• Type of service
• Location of the cemetery including street address
• Line up date and time
• Processional requirements
• Post funeral activities

Tradition and Honor dictates that anytime hands touch the casket of our fallen comrade that pipes will be played. Adjustments to this may be made at the family’s request.
